Thank you so much for dropping by.

I am Woolly Mamma, a self confessed crochet & knitting obsessive, single mum working full time to provide for my child (and feed my wool/yarn cravings).

For as long as I can remember I have done creative things. It is a need. It is my outlet. Whether it’s crochet. knitting, sewing, writing or anything else I love it.

My mum taught me to knit when I was five and though I enjoyed it I often found it frustrating. Then….something wonderful happened. My Nana taught me to crochet at the age of nine. That was it….I was well and truly hooked! Since then there is always a hook and yarn nearby. ..even in those terrible teenage years they were close to hand. It is an obsession if I am to be totally honest.

As well as hooking and clicking I enjoy writing. Poetry mainly. Again, it’s something I have been doing for years. Longer than I care to admit! After I lost my mum I found a poem she had kept. It was amazing. It blew me away. I was ten when I wrote it. I am still trying to write something that good again!

Over the years people have asked me to write for special occasions and artists have used my prose as inspiration for their own work. It always amazes me that anyone could like my work enough to use it in such ways (although, admittedly, my inner arty ego secretly loves it).

My other major passion is calligraphy, particularly medieval calligraphy. This is borne out of a lifelong love of British history. Put me anywhere near an illuminated manuscript or a beautifully written document and I’m happy for hours as I take in everything I can. I am by no means an expert and still trying to master the basics really but I enjoy it.

When I feel the urge I also enjoy cross stitch, latch hook, macrame, candle wicking and embroidery. Even these hobbies date back to the lazy, hazy days of a 70s childhood. Memories of summer holidays spent creating in this manner are always near.

I now fancy branching out into soap making. Of course, this is more an added extra to my current obsession with crocheting face clothes in luxury cotton. I think one of the flannels with some handmade soap all wrapped up in a sweet little gift set is quite appealing. You may well see my soap making antics appearing in a blog eventually! I expect to get into a bit of a lather. …literally!

So…that’s me. I look forward to getting to know people on here and hope that someone, somewhere finds the ramblings contained here interesting.

Warmest wishes to you all. Xx
